KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 – Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has sent his best wishes to the 21 national paralympic athletes participating in the Paralympic Games from Sept 7 to 18 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“Our #Paralympic Athletes leaving for #Rio2016 today. Best wishes, come on #TeamMalaysia! #MalaysiaBoleh,” said the prime minister in his latest Facebook and Twitter postings today.
The national paralympic contingent accompanied by 19 coaches and sports officials, left for Brazil, today.
Among the athletes with medal prospects in the international sporting event are Abdul Latif Romly, Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi and Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli in athletics.
Malaysia is taking part in eight of the 23 sports in contest, namely athletics, cycling, powerlifting, archery, ping-pong, sailing, wheelchair tennis
Earlier, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that paralympic athletes who succeed in winning medals in Brazil, would be receiving lifetime monthly allowance of RM5,000 for the gold medal, RM3,000 (silver) and RM2,000 (bronze).
